Where else
can you get a sunrise like this? Only on the Mighty Murray! The pelican
population is doing just fine – there’s thousands of them, they’re everywhere! Up
to 9am it’s a beautiful paddle, then the wind kicks in but it’s not quite as
bad as it has been. The sandstone of the cliffs has been eroded into a sharp,
broken bubble effect and it looks as if it’s been attacked by acid rain. There
are galahs in the holes in the cliffs – I took a photo but you can’t see them.
I reach our
meeting point just before Nildottie and it’s only around 2pm so we agree to go
on to Forster or Walker Flat. A couple of hours later we lose phone reception and
the wind gets so strong, 20 – 30 km/h, that it’s impossible to paddle against
and I’m really tired so I get out at Wongulla Landing and get a lift from a
local to Walker Flat ferry, where Pan is waiting for me across the river. We
stay the night at Wongulla Landing, feast on curried sausages and watch a film
– a good evening after a hard day’s work!
Pan spoke
to Yarrawonga Lions Club today – thanks for your donation, Yarrawonga - we’ve
now passed our $10,000 target, now let’s get the bonus cash in! Don’t forget,
you can donate online at http://www.mycause.com.au/paddleforlife2013
Distance paddled: 58 km
