Tony
The morning
is nice and the river is flowing at about three knots so I’m very happy to be
out there! But, what a surprise, the wind blows up mid-morning and I’m
working the hard yards again. One good thing though is that the river has
narrowed again so it’s generally faster and the wind doesn’t have as bad an
effect as further upstream where I couldn’t escape it a lot of the time –
thankfully I have a bit more shelter now… for the time being!
I see a
boat above the bank that looks like it might have got stranded there after a
flood subsided – what a strange sight!
Distance paddled: 39 km

After Tony’s
done paddling, we meet Loxton Lions Club at the Loxton Hotel in the afternoon and
later join a few of them at the Rotary Club’s formal dinner, which is just
about the first chance I’ve had to get dressed smart since arriving in Australia
in February. The sun’s still bright as we arrive but it’s an outdoor event and
there’s a real chill once night falls – it’s like being back in England, thank god
for gas heaters! We have a good meal and joke around with the Rotary folks. A
group of girls get up for a photo and we can’t help getting them to pose for another
one with Tony - I’ve never seen the guy look so happy!

Thanks to
Gail and John and the Loxton Lions for their help and contributions and to the Rotary
Club for welcoming us to their dinner. Also to the Loxton Riverfront Caravan Park for donating a perfect site to us.
