A hard slog
this morning, the weather turning nasty not long after I set off – we have a
storm - thunder and a bit of lightning, with the rain pounding down on me like
sleet, so I keep my head down, grit my teeth and plough through it, fighting
the elements to get to Berri. I don’t want to stop because it’ll be hard to get
going again. I drop my paddle to one side and reach into the water to find that
the river is much warmer than the atmosphere and rain. I’m cold and want to
finish the day, and eventually arrive late morning, ahead of schedule and get
straight in the shower at the caravan park – what a brilliant feeling!
The Berri Lions
come to say hello bearing early Christmas gifts of cakes and the Lions' brilliant Images of the Riverland calendar featuring pictures by local photographer Italo Vardaro, and we plan to have dinner in the evening. Cheers
to Lions Club of Berri President Margaret Evans OAM (she was Mayor of Berri for
26 years and is now back on the board as a counselor – amazing!) and everyone
that shared a great meal with us at the Berri Resort Hotel and for contributing
to our raffle.
Distance paddled: 36 km
